Greetings and welcome to the Patriot Express Newsletter Edition #289. Thanks for stopping by for this week's edition. It's a cold wet week here in East Tennessee. I do believe we got spoiled by the 70-degree weather from a week ago. Our maples are budding, and Ms. Lucy pointed out to me that her tulips are showing green above ground. Now it's near 40 degrees and it has rained for two days and still raining. Looking out my office window I see lots of squirrels dancing across the field and bounding from tree to tree. I haven't noticed my pal Wilson the squirrel since before December. It is coming up on Valentines Day so maybe Wilson found love.
Yes, it's the season of Cupid and love. Have you ever stopped to give thought to what Cupid is about? The intent is Cupid is a symbol of love and romance. As the legend would go, anyone struck by one of Cupid's magical arrows would fall in love with the next person they saw. Going back in time, in Roman mythology, Cupid is the son of Venus, the goddess of love. And in Greek mythology, he was known as Eros and was the son of Aphrodite. Today, Cupid has morphed into the chubby winged child we know and love. Yea, it's all in fun and romantic, right? Hallmark has made a mint off the Cupid symbol. Think about it, a symbol of love. A symbol of a child with a bow loaded with an arrow and firing it off to another person's heart.
They saying goes "we mature as we age or grow up." Some will say it's good to have some level of a child in our personality and life. True? Not true? Does this maybe mean be lighthearted? Is the entire concept of Cupid and Valentines Day silly? Do we buy Valentines cards because it's what is expected and just tradition? It's all about love, right? A card with the Cupid symbol and arrow of live is believe by many to exemplify one love to another,
Last evening I was in a Bible study group that mentioned Cupid and the arrow of love. What is love? In 1 Corinthians, Chapter 13 - The Greatest Gift, verse 3, it says " And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing." Verse 4 says, "Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, things no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all thins, hopes all things, endures all things."
Imagine a world where the true Biblical meaning of love was in fact shared for it's true written meaning vs a false symbol that is shared amongst millions globally. We must face the fact humans can only experience love through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. It means dependency on God.
You may ask what this has to do with preparedness? Three of the most important steps in preparedness is understanding yourself and addressing your physical, psychological, and spiritual health and well-being. We must leave our childish being and develop as adults. We need faith, hope, and love, with love being the greatest.

Ding, Ding, Ding....Attention HFS readers..... Opinions shared in this newsletter are just that, opinions, and nothing more. Read at your own risk. The owner and author of this site is not responsible for hurt feelings or thin-skinned readers. I do my best to show restraint and respect to the best extent possible. I take as many precautions as possible and try to remain as nonpolitical as possible, however, there are times when I just can't help but point certain things out. Occasionally I use words only Patriots recognize and understand. It's not personal against any non-Patriot. It's just the truth. Sometimes we must pull up our spenders and suck it up. Just saying. Stay the course, read what you want, and avoid the rest. Avoid fear porn as much as possible and the day will be okay. When all else fails… Keep the faith and always have Hope.
Thoughts for the week - Gardening
Yea, I know its February. But it won't be long until those who plants seeds can get outdoors and start watching God's gifts begin to break ground unless you start early with seed starters. No matter how you grow it and do it, I can't encourage you enough to get started trying your hand at growing food. In case you aren't paying attention, the world is changing, temperatures are rising, and grocery stores are having a harder time stocking the shelves. Even then the prices are so high many folks are eating unhealthy foods because they can't afford to eat healthy. A person could buy $10 worth of seeds to plant and save a lot of money at the grocery store......if they know how to grow the plants. Hence, now is the time to start learning.
First, there is a time and method to when to get started. Here is a chart to provide some tips.
Another method is to grow your plants from scraps you collected seeds from.

Do you know or have a gauge of how much to grow to feed the number of people in your family?

If you plan to go the raised bed route and may require some upwards growth for your plants, here's some suggestions to consider.
